AUSTSWIM is excited to introduce the AUSTSWIM Assessor Online Module. This module has been specifically designed to guide teachers through all aspects of the AUSTSWIM Assessor role, which is to assess the teaching competency of trainee AUSTSWIM teachers after they have gained an appropriate amount of experience under the supervision of their Training Supervisor/s.
In order for AUSTSWIM Teachers to be eligible to assess a trainee teacher’s competency, they are required to undertake and complete this Online Module.
The Online Module is free of charge and gives AUSTSWIM Teachers an automatic 2 hours of professional development towards their Teacher licence renewal (minimum requirements are required to apply).
AUSTSWIM is very appreciative of the enormous contribution of the Assessors, who volunteer their time to assist candidates through to completion of their licence.

Applications
For applications to be considered, applicants need to have the endorsement of their workplace, or if self-employed a referee must be provided. Referees may be contacted as part of the approval process.
Workplace Policies
Applicants should note that each workplace/swim centre can self-manage how the supervised training experience and competency assessment process is conducted within their centre. Centres may appoint AUSTSWIM assessors as deemed appropriate to their specific conditions, therefore obtaining status of AUSTSWIM Assessor through the online module does not automatically result in performing this role within the workplace.
Assessor Identification
On successful completion of the online module, AUSTSWIM Assessors will receive an updated Teacher Licence.
AUSTSWIM Teacher roles in supervising and assessing trainee AUSTSWIM teachers
Training Supervisor – An AUSTSWIM teacher that is responsible for supervising trainee teachers while they develop their skills as a swimming and water safety teacher. The Training Supervisor must be appropriately licenced for the type of teaching that is being performed, however does not need to be qualified as an AUSTSWIM Assessor.
AUSTSWIM Assessor – responsible for the ‘sign-off’ of a trainee teacher’s competency. Assessors are only eligible to assess competency for the range of licences that they currently hold (eg if you don’t hold an Infant & Preschool extension licence then you aren’t eligible to assess a candidate undertaking this licence)
